Stone Sculpture
A shared workshop for sculptors. Carving spaces, introductory courses and tools — at Helsfyr in Oslo, in continuous operation since 1948.
SA Steinskulptur is Norway’s oldest shared workshop for art production in continuous operation. We rent carving spaces to sculptors and run introductory courses in stone carving.
The workshop operates as a cooperative owned and run by Norwegian sculptors. It is open to sculptors and others working in stone.
Carving spaces
Five carving spaces with direct access to electricity, compressed air and workbenches. Each space has a lockable cabinet and generous working area — suitable for both small studies and monumental works. Rented by the week, month or longer period.
Introductory courses
Courses for artists who want to learn the fundamentals of stone carving. Held periodically throughout the year in small groups with individual guidance from experienced sculptors. Suitable for beginners as well as artists looking to extend their practice.
Tools
A selection of tools is available to those renting a carving space and to course participants — on loan for shorter periods. For longer working stays we recommend bringing your own tools.
